a blessed week

I had been helping out at my uncle's optical shop for a week, and I'm truly blessed. I did only some minor work like cleaning glasses and picking out the contact lenses of correct power for customers... more skills are required to answer customers' questions regarding specs and fixing glasses, so those work are run by auntie. From the day I started helping out, I got to see how vital it is for one to have good socializing skills to communicate well with clients. You can't be persuasive or convincing if you fail to make your customer feel at ease and welcomed. Being patient, composed, observant and down-to-earth are such skills that can only be learnt over time and  truly, seeing how auntie ran the shop fascinated me.

She treated me very well and often shared her own life experiences with me, giving me advice and emphasized on some values that are essential to life. Every day, she would ask me how I got to the shop, whether I've had my breakfast, what I want to eat for lunch and dinner... She would offer to make me coffee or milo, a ride back home and would ask me to miss call her once I got home. She treated me very well and she's so caring, I couldn't help feeling touched. :) She conversed with me a lot and sometimes she would share some secrets of cooking like how to cook a well- steamed egg, she would share experiences of nursing child and pet dogs, her working encounters at young age, even some painful experiences.

Every day, she would buy Sin Chew Daily newspaper and encourage me to read it. So I began reading newspaper again after so many years, dumbfounded at some news of gruesome murders, the high rates of accidents and conflicts among society. I wonder how much I have left out all these years, and reading these articles make me realize how perilous this life can be.

Staying alone at home for a week is really not bad, when I have something to occupy myself with - work at day time. I got the opportunity to practice cooking ( whenever I insisted to cook on my own back home after work), scrubbing things clean, etc. Doing everything on my own is amazingly manageable, and I started to gain some confidence that way.  Getting chance to do something else rather than just staying at home all day is like rejuvenating my life, it feels like life. Being grounded at home for months had put me into such despair, I couldn't help feeling happy when I'm back here for a while - the smell of temporary freedom, lol.

The book of tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern &
House Rules by Jodi Picoult
Whenever I got early to work, I got to visit a bookshop nearby the specs shop named Bookxcess. They provide really good bargains. I got myself The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern @ RM17.90 and House Rules by Jodi Picoult @ RM24.90, both hardcover. What more I can say, such a good bargain :D :D :D

Time really flies, my one week of helping out has ended like that. I can't resist admiring specs and looking at them with a new perspective after this experience. I'm truly blessed for this opportunity and I've gained joy from it.When sis, bro-in-law, auntie and uncle came back from their vacation, they got me some gifts... and they're so heartfelt..and thank you ying ying jie jie, for weekend visits to keep me company. truly, you all will overwhelm me with loves.. In everything, praise the Lord. :) Thank you all for the loves that I don't deserve.
